Ecuador Trek – Altar
(5 days, 4 nights
)

A fabulous trek into Sangay National Park home to many beautiful lagoons and the beautiful Altar volcano.
Day 1. Quito-Hacienda-Releche
We will leave Quito early in the morning and travel by jeep to the south through the valley of the volcanoes to Riobamba. After that we head further Southwest to the Hacienda Releche located at 3080m. Here you will spend the night and enjoy dinner and the cozy fireplace of the Hacienda has.
Day 2. Hacienda Releche-Camping in the Collanes
After breakfast you will climb uphill and will pass fields and different types of vegetation until arriving at the Collanes-valley. There you will set up camp at 3800m and have a wonderful view over the Altar mountain ridge. With some luck you may see gliding condors.
Day 3. Camp - Yellow Lagoon - Camp
After breakfast, you will continue the climbing tour to the beautiful yellow lagoon. After you will climb to the end of the valley which will allow for an excellent opportunity to explore the Andean highlands with its Polylepis and Quishuar Trees. During this climbing tour you will partly be walking along the steep edges of the crater 4200m from to enjoy a wonderful view. After a rest at the shore of the lake you will continue your walk to the highest point 44800. From there you will have a breathtaking view over the extinct Altar volcano. In the afternoon, return to the camp in the Collanes valley.
Day 4. Camp- Northern part of the crater edge-Camp
A cross-country trip will take you through the Andean vegetation, moor region and rocky parts in the Northern part of the crater edge. From there you have an amazing view over the snow-covered peak of the Chimborazo, Sangay, Cubillin and Quilimias mountains. In the afternoon, return to your camp.
Day 5. Camp - Hacienda Releche - Quito
Return to the Hacienda Releche where you will have a lunch break before returning to Quito.
