    Laguna culebrillas

An outstanding alternative to the more popular Inca Trail of Peru. This trek will include fabulous Andean landscapes, breathtaking volcano scenery along with local towns and ancient Inca ruins.
This five day tour reaches a maximum altitude of 4200m and includes mules, all camping equipment, a bilingual guide and all meals.

    Itinerary:

    Day 1
. Quito - Nariz del Diablo in Alausí - Achupallas
From Quito, we travel south in private transportation through the spectacular avenue of the volcanoes towards Cotopaxi, the most famous of all Ecuadorian volcanoes. You shall pass Pasochoa, Ruminahui and Corazon volcanoes along this spectacular journey. Arrival to the town of Alausí where you will take the world famous train, the Nariz del Diablo and we will head to the town of Achupallas where you will spend the night and prepare for the great adventure along the Inca Trail.

Day 2. Achupallas - Lago Tres Cruces
After preparing the mules, we start our walk by following the Achupallas River, through the beautiful landscape of paramo Andino (high altitude grassland) with many impressive panoramic views. Arrival to the Laguna de Tres Cruces camp site. First camp.  6 hours trekking time today.

Day 3. Lago Tres Cruces  - Culebrillas
Today, the trek takes you through the Chimborazo province, and will involve crossing a high pass at 4.200m close to the lake "Laguna de Culebrillas”. Here you will be able to observe Chimborazo (Ecuador’s highest mountain) and if the weather is clear you can even see the notorious volcano Sangay. Leaving the province of Chimborazo and entering the province of Canar we follow the variated Inca trail down hill to Paredones where we will camp for our second night at the Lago Sagrado de Culebrillas. 6 hours trekking time today.

    Day 4. Culebrillas  - Ingapirca – Cuenca
The final day of the trek will lead us to Ingapirca; Ecuadors most famous and important archaeological site. Ingapirca Ruins are a testimony to the presence of the Incas and in fact the he word Ingapirca means "wall of the Inca" The temple was built by the Inca Huayna Capac in the 15th century. Throughout the Inca empire the settlement had multiple functions intended to be models of Cuzco, but on a much smaller scale. At this site you will find an interesting museum with Ethnographic and archeological exhibits. Located in the southern Ecuadorean Andes in Cañar province, the ruins are characterised by perfectly-carved stones held together by natural mortar. The ruins comprise strategic observation points, cemeteries, roads, storage rooms, priests' chambers and a plaza. The most impressive part of the site is the oval-shaped Temple of the Sun, which acted as an important ceremonial and ritual centre for the Cañari-Inca. Accommodation at a local hotel.

    Day 5. Cuenca -  Quito
After breakfast, return to Quito by road.
